To the Universe Belongs the Dancer

“To the universe belongs the dancer…He who does not dance does not know what happens.”

– NT APOCRYPHA II, cited, p.92 ‘The Gnostic Gospels’ -Elaine Pagels, Penguin, 1990

  1. The gnostics idea that all myths , doctrines , and speculations, including their own, are only approaches to the truth really appeals to me. Especially when contrasted with the orthodox Christian view which identifies its own doctrine as being itself the truth.
    I’m going dancing….

  2. @ Stephen: I agree completely! I’m much more sympathetic to the gnostics than to the mainstream views.

    @ Meleah: Indeed!

@ Steve: You and me both, bro! 🙂

  3. I have been quoting this since I read The Gnostic Gospels. Every time I remember it, it focuses my world. Look on a tarot card for “The World” and you’ll see a vision of dancers–it’s obviously an ancient wisdom that indigenous societies always possessed. And it doesn’t matter if you don’t have rhythm, it’s metaphorical.

I'd love to hear from you. Comments make my day.
