Saturday’s Nude for November 8, 2008

Dörthe from the Love Me series by Thomas Karsten

Maybe I’ve got a wild imagination this morning, but I see this nude as a commentary on the concrete world most of us live in.  Everything from the pose to the camera tilt, from the whitewash to the lighting, reminds me of the peculiar disconnect and boredom I sometimes feel in urban environments.

A note:  In response to a request last week, I went looking for more full-bodied models than this one.  However, I ran out of time before I could find an image quite as good as the one above.  I’ll give it a try again next week.  My apologies for now.

  1. The reason I am following this series is our earlier discussion on the borderline between erotica and pornography. You were quite certain there was a clear distinction whilst I asserted it is the burry bit in between that fascinates. That is where the art is. This photo is a great example, she is gorgeous and she is splattered with white stuff. Now you call it erotica,

  2. Some call it “edgy” too; that line between erotica and porn. It’s a fine line that is sometimes accidently found. Frederic Fontenoy found it on purpose though it seems but some might disagree.

PS If I can be shameless, I do have some full-bodied nudes in my Vanessa gallery, though not nearly erotic.

  3. @ Paul: When I looked at this nude after reading your comments, I could see your point. I hadn’t realized when I first saw her that she could be seen erotically. I was thinking she was symbolic of how the concrete jungles we live in “color” our awareness. I’ve worked light construction jobs, and the paint on her reminded me of the dirt and dust on those jobs. But your interpretation is quite valid, methinks.

@ Chris: Thank you so much for the link and recommend to your site! I will check it out this week!

@ Jim: Welcome to the blog!

  4. “Well you’re dirty and sweet
Clad in black, don’t look back and I love you
You’re dirty and sweet, oh yeah
Well you dance when you walk
So let’s dance, take a chance, understand me
You’re dirty sweet and you’re my girl

Get it on, bang a gong, get it on
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on – ow”
    (T-Rex [specific lyricist…?])
