Paul’s Daily Half-Dozen for August 23, 2018

The technologies or the sciences: Which interest you more?

As a kid, did you ever create an explosive device from scratch?  Would you have, if you’d known how?

If you only showered or shaved when you needed to, which would you need to do more often — shower or shave?

Who is the most charming person you personally know who is also a decent person?

Do exceptionally beautiful or intelligent people rely too much on their beauty or intelligence to get by?

City, suburbs, country, wilderness — where would you like to live?

  1. I don’t know what has happened, but I seem to be missing quite a few of my follows from the Reader, you included. I was beginning to worry that something had happened to you!
The technologies or the sciences: Which interest you more?
Sciences. My husband would be the first to tell you that machines and I have a fractured relationship. They don’t like me and often malfunction in my presence for no discernible reason.

As a kid, did you ever create an explosive device from scratch? Would you have, if you’d known how?
Good heavens! Me – a pyromaniac?! Never….I just light candles.

If you only showered or shaved when you needed to, which would you need to do more often — shower or shave?
Oh Lord, Paul. I never shave, so this is a no-brainer

Who is the most charming person you personally know who is also a decent person?
Umh – that would be moi 🙂

Do exceptionally beautiful or intelligent people rely too much on their beauty or intelligence to get by?
Now that is a loaded question. The ones that know they are, do. If they are superficial, and have a poor self identity, lacking confidence. Unless of course they are modest, non-egocentric, grounded, and an all round nice person

City, suburbs, country, wilderness — where would you like to live?
    Country.

  2. The technologies or the sciences: Which interest you more? I can’t choose! Without science we can’t have useful technology. Without technology there is no practical application of science. They forward each other.

As a kid, did you ever create an explosive device from scratch? Would you have, if you’d known how? No, I never did. I love fire though, and I always wanted a chemistry kit. I imagine I would have done it, but on a very very tiny and safe scale (like, poof!), and then trembled at my own potential power, haha

If you only showered or shaved when you needed to, which would you need to do more often — shower or shave? This is really a question of which I prefer more, being hairy or greasy… right? I prefer to be hairy over being greasy. Having red hair means I can get away with being pretty hairy before people notice… or maybe they’re just too polite to say, haha

Who is the most charming person you personally know who is also a decent person? Probably my dad, he’s very charismatic. People love him, he’s always a natural MC at get-togethers and things.

Do exceptionally beautiful or intelligent people rely too much on their beauty or intelligence to get by? I don’t know about too much. I think they can’t help unconsciously relying on it. Nobody does extra work unless they are forced to, it’s human nature.

City, suburbs, country, wilderness — where would you like to live? Country

  3. The technologies or the sciences: Which interest you more? – Technologies!

As a kid, did you ever create an explosive device from scratch? Would you have, if you’d known how? – Explosive device? I had no idea how to create one. And if i did, well, probably not. I would have been afraid of hurting myself.

If you only showered or shaved when you needed to, which would you need to do more often — shower or shave? – Shower ya dingus! No point in shaving if you smell! 😀

Who is the most charming person you personally know who is also a decent person? – Very much you, Paul. I bet you only made this question to fuel your ego! 😛

Do exceptionally beautiful or intelligent people rely too much on their beauty or intelligence to get by? – I don’t know, i have not gotten to know any exceptionally beautiful/intelligent people enough.

City, suburbs, country, wilderness — where would you like to live? Anything that isn’t suburbs. And wilderness. I can’t fend for myself 😀 So that leaves city and county. I like em both, they are both appealing to me.

      1. Really they’re both equally important and…wait, i just had a sudden mystical realisation that you meant technologies as in engineering and applied science, and not self-driving cars which i initially thought. Yes, i have more of an interest in the sciences 😀

  4. Science or technology – knowledge or invention. If we’d stuck with science instead of getting all inventive with the atom, there would be no nuclear bombs. It has t be science.

The bomb I made didn’t work, so I went back to throwing rocks at the tubes on old-fashioned TVs. The explosion was usually pretty impressive.

Shower or shave – here’s your answer to this one: it’s so long since I shaved under my arms that I have to plait the hair at night to keep it from getting tangled between my toes. But I smell nice.

My nephew, Robbie is one of the most charming people I know and maybe THE most decent, so he doesn’t have a chance of getting into Government, which is a shame, since he’s to be our next local Green candidate in the parliamentary elections.

Exceptionally beautiful/intelligent people are like anyone – a mixed bunch. Some of them, like Steven Hawkin, have to use their intelligence to get by, just as a lot of famous ‘personalities’ need to use their looks, as they often don’t have much else to offer.

I’d like to live in a deciduous woodland, so my answer is the country.
