A Flock of Sparrows for Majel: You Lawyered-Up

A Flock of Sparrows for Majel

(About a 1 minute read)

I profoundly regret I am unable to accept
Your apology, your olive branch,
Your redress, your atonement
for the insult
You hurled at me today.

Alas! I find myself unable to accept your apology
On a mere legal technicality,
No more than a mere legal technicality.

The mere legal technicality
That you did not offer one.

You might have tried asking me if we
Could talk, and told me your heart was breaking
To see me wounded, to see me hurt.

But you lawyered-up.

You lawyered-up.
You came accusing
Me of misunderstanding you.
You came accusing.

You came accusing
Me of ignoring truth and reason.
Me of ignoring proofs and cases.
Me of ignoring facts and logic.
Me of ignoring your superior
Views and opinions.
You lawyered-up.

Were you thinking of next sentencing me?

Tell me. Is it cold up there where you sit?
Sit so high above me on your judge’s bench?
Tell me, do I look small to you?
Tell me, what it’s like to be justice personified?

You say I’m stubborn, unreasonable, and unrelenting.
You accuse me of being irrational.
Irrational for not submitting to your superior insight.

How fascinating such a sharp and insightful mind as yours
Is clueless about the simple difference
Between loving someone
And prosecuting them.
