Burn a Candle Against the Night

Light a stick of jasmine tonight
And I will light one too.

A stick shall burn near the sea,
And another near the mountains.

Is not jasmine the same scent for everyone?

Burn a tapering candle tonight
And I will burn a tapering candle too.

A candle shall burn near the sea,
And another near the mountains.

Is not candlelight the same light for everyone?

Come to me in the spring
And see the flowers.

And if not the spring,
Come to me in the summer
And see the grasses.

And if not the summer,
Come to me in the fall
And see the leaves.

And if not the fall,
Come to me in the winter
And see the branches.

But come to me.
I must believe you will come to me.

I work tirelessly so you can come to me.

Ten thousand miles cannot defeat a human heart.
If six plans fail, a seventh will win the day.

Ten million miles
Cannot defeat a human heart,
Let alone ten thousand.

Only despair can defeat a heart.

Light a stick of jasmine,
Burn a candle against the night.

Never surrender, never despair.
Burn a candle against the night.
